BIRDS AND WILDLIFE OF SOUTHERN AFRICA (CHELMSFORD)

EBwS County Recorder Tim Hayward will give a presentation on the birds and wildlife he encountered during a month-long visit to southern Africa.  As well as species unique to that region, Tim also came across some surprising ‘old friends’, European migrants that had made it all the way there all by themselves. The trip took him from Johannesburg northwards through Botswana to the Chobe National Park and the amazing Chobe River, on the northern border with Namibia and Zambia, taking in the birds and wildlife of the Makadikgadi Salt Pans on the way, and also the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe before heading back to Johannesburg.  He then headed east for an 8-day visit to the spectacular and enormous Kruger Park.
