Old Hall Marshes NR RSPB 12:00 to 17:00, Humid, overcast with sunny intervals and brief thunderstorms. High tide around 1pm
7 Great Crested Grebe (On pool Crouch wall) 4 Spoonbill (4pm. 2 flew in to breach on Blackwater across reserve. , 2 already there. All adults. (6 had been reported earlier)) 5 Bar-tailed Godwit (On Blackwater with Grey plovers. Flew off towards Crouch) 100 Black-tailed Godwit (At least. Mailny on pools near Crouch.) 15 Spotted Redshank (c.Blackwater. One in black summer plumage) 20 Golden Plover (c. Blackwater, with Spoonbills) 200 Grey Plover (c. At least 2 flocks of 100, in summer plumage) 2 Ruff (2 on main pool (short walk) 2 on pool by Crouch probably same birds.) 1 Greenshank (Flew up calling along Blackwater) 1 Whimbrel (On Crouch marshes near car park. Flew up and landed close to Wall path) 14 Avocet (8 on main pool. Flock of 14 later flew over.) 20 Dunlin (c. Flew in to Blackwater mud banks.) 15 Swallow (1 on short walk. Party of 15c on telephone wires before Tolleshunt d'Arcy) 2 Bearded Tit (2 or 3 calling in reedbed Crouch wall. Not seen) 5 Common Sandpiper (5 on raft with 2 families of Common Terns, Crouch wall pool) 2 Green Woodpecker (Pair on path from Car park to N wall (seen twice)) 3 Egyptian Goose (3 with Greylags Crouch wall pools) [Ian Swanson]
